What are white fillings?
Commonly referred to as ‘composite fillings’, white fillings are a routine treatment to restore dental cavities caused by tooth decay.
White fillings are made from tooth-coloured dental composite combined with resins that come in an array of different shades to match your natural teeth.
What are the main advantages of white fillings?
White fillings – or composite fillings – are chemically bonded to your natural tooth’s enamel and dentine using a specific bonding procedure. This bonding technique results in less natural tooth removal during the preparation stages before filling the tooth compared to amalgam fillings (silver fillings) which normally require to be held mechanically by the tooth.
Not only are white fillings more aesthetically pleasing, but they are more convenient for our patients as they are cured in the surgery using a blue light -this means that our patients can carry on eating and drinking as soon as they leave the surgery providing, they are not numb.
