We aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible with Sedation Dentistry
At New River Dental patient care and dental excellence is at the forefront of what we do.
We have specialised in providing sedation for many years for patients in and around Enfield and to help ease nerves for our anxious patients and allowing for a more pleasant dental experience – sedation is a procedure that can be carried out safely for any dental treatment, big or small.
We are very lucky to have 4 sedation accredited dentists at the practice and we can use sedation safely to ensure you have as comfortable a procedure as possible.
Why overcoming dental anxiety is so important?
Previous experiences at the dental surgery in decades gone by have left many unfortunate patients in severe distress with anything to do with dentistry and often dental phobic
Dental treatment is one of those things that cannot be neglected as it can lead to a lifetime of problems.
Of course it is very common for people to feel some degree of anxiety when visiting the dentist but there are many techniques we employ at New River Dental to alleviate these feelings from taking our time just talking and listening to painless injections and of course providing sedation.
Around 12% of patients in the UK are considered to be dental phobic to the extent some have not visited the dentist for decades. This typically will have a severely damaging effect on a person’s oral and general health as well as mental well being.
Pain free dentistry is so important as allows us to build long term and valuable relationships for those patients who have been worried about coming to the dentists for often many years and decades.
What types of sedation dentistry do we provide at the practice?
There are numerous types of sedation used depending on the levels of sedation that you require.
Oral sedation comes in the form of a sedative pill or tablet that is taken before treatment. This medication may make you feel drowsy, but you will still be awake.
Intravenous Sedation Intravenous Sedation involves receiving a sedative drug through a vein at the back of the hand or arm. Intravenous sedation works very quickly and is adjustable throughout your treatment time whilst you remain fully conscious but completely relaxed.
Regardless of which sedation type you are receiving; your dental procedure will be done under a local anaesthetic so that you are comfortable at all times.
Who can have sedation?
Your dentist will take a thorough medical history before administering a sedative to ensure that dental treatment is safe and not affected by any other medications or underlying medical conditions.
Most people are suitable candidates for sedation. It is entirely safe to perform in the dental clinic setting. We sedate with a completely safe sedative and alter the dosage to allow you to reach a point of relaxation and continue to monitor you carefully.
What does conscious sedation feel like?
Reports of the effects vary from person to person, depending on which type of sedation they have received. Many of our patients report feeling drowsy and relaxed. Many patients who have had IV sedation do not remember having had treatment, even though they are conscious throughout their time under our care. After treatment, patients can often go home fairly soon after.
We are here to help in every way we can to improve your dental health in the safest and most comfortable way we can!
