Our ethos is that prevention is better than cure.
During your dental visits with us, you can expect to receive professional advice and tailored preventative dentistry treatments for your ongoing oral health.
What preventative dentistry treatments can I expect?
Diet & Lifestyle Advice
As part of your routine examination appointment, we will discuss your lifestyle and offer tailored advice regarding smoking cessation, alcohol consumption and acidic foods and beverages, not just to improve your oral health but also your general health. We like to encourage healthy habits to optimise your oral health.
Oral Health Advice
At each check-up, we will assess your gums for early signs of gum disease and discuss improvements and treatment options available to you. We will offer practical oral hygiene instructions in terms of toothbrushing, interdental aids and mouthwashes.
Dental X-rays
Dental decay is not always easy to detect with the naked eye. As recommended, we regularly use digital x-rays for detecting early signs of decay and lesions between the teeth. We also use x-rays to monitor the supporting bone structures for any changes in the long term.
Fluoride Varnish
We use a fluoride varnish on teeth that may be susceptible to caries (tooth decay). Fluoride varnish is a topical treatment painted onto areas that may be hard to reach when brushing. As recommended by the NHS and other health bodies, we routinely apply topical fluoride to children’s teeth whilst they are young, and their brushing may not be optimal. Children tend to like this part of their examinations as most of our patients think it tastes great!
Fissure Sealants
Fissures are the small crevices found on the biting surface of molar teeth. Fissure sealants are used to fill these tiny spaces that may be susceptible to harmful – decay-causing – bacteria. These sealants are helpful in children, whereby they may not yet have had enough fluoride exposure to protect permanent teeth.
