Dental Hygiene is an essential part of your oral health, giving you a brighter, whiter, and healthier smile!
We believe that the most beautiful smile is a healthy one. Our highly experienced hygienist, Rita, is dedicated to improving your oral health.
Why do I need a hygienist appointment?
Gum disease is the most common reason for tooth loss in the UK. With professional hygiene cleaning and appropriate home care, we can help you keep your natural teeth for longer. Our dental hygienists build lifelong oral hygiene habits to improve your smile’s long-term health and stability.
What is involved in the hygiene appointment?
Depending on the level of individual need, you will have a 20–60-minute hygiene appointment, which will involve a comprehensive and detailed discussion about your oral health status and how we can improve the health of your teeth and gums through oral hygiene instruction, toothbrushing technique and interdental aids.
The hygienist will carry out a full deep clean of teeth and gums with ultrasonic instrumentation and hand scaling. On occasion, an anaesthetic may be required.
Our wonderful hygienist, Rita, has many years of experience to ensure the process is effective and comfortable.
What is gum disease?
Gum disease is the commonly used term for a wide range of complications relating to your teeth, gums and supporting tissues. Gum disease is classified into stages which range from mild gingivitis to chronic periodontitis.
Poor dental hygiene can lead to several potentially serious consequences related to gum disease, including bleeding gums, bad breath and loose teeth.
How can I prevent gum disease?
We believe that prevention is better than cure. You will be offered oral hygiene information and advice on brushing and interdental cleaning at every appointment. Plaque and bleeding scores can be recorded to monitor your progression.
Both our dentists and hygienists check for signs of gum disease and will discuss treatment options available to you.
What is interdental brushing?
Each tooth has five surfaces. Without interdental cleaning (cleaning in-between the teeth), you are leaving 40% of your tooth enamel susceptible to tooth decay, as well as increasing your risk of developing gum disease.
Your hygienist will give you a range of aids and cleaning techniques in between your teeth to build a good oral hygiene routine.
